University Application and Career Planning

If you would like guidance on planning your next steps, applying to University, pursuing a particular career, or if you are unsure of what to do when you leave College, our experienced staff are available to help.

Each year we help our students progress to some of the best Universities in the UK as well as supporting students into employment and onto Apprenticeships.

To help you prepare for your next step, whatever path you choose, we have a range of support services available, to include:

University Visits

We arrange trips and visits to a wide number of Universities. These visits might be general visits to such Universities as Manchester or Leeds, or targeted at certain careers, such as Edge Hill for Teaching. We also arrange visits to the top Russell Group Universities including Oxford and Cambridge for those who wish to aim high!

HE Preparation Day

We arrange a Higher Education Preparation Day, with a range of guest speakers plus subject specific sessions about choosing the correct university and how to write a good application.

Workshops and 1-to-1s

In order to ensure that all students have the best possible advice when applying to UCAS, we hold a number of targeted workshops focusing on application writing and interview techniques. Students can also book a 1-to-1 with staff who are experienced in helping students to gain a good University place.

Within Student Services there is a careers library and browsing area containing a range of relevant literature. This includes university prospectuses, careers books and job skills workbooks. Information is available on a variety of topics including taking a gap year, preparing CVs, improving your interviewing skills and job hunting.

Gifted and Talented Students

Students who are aiming high, and applying for increasingly competitive degree places at Universities such as Oxford and Cambridge can take part in our Gifted and Talented programme.

Looking for Work

Students who wish to go straight into employment can also attend our Careers Conference, where a number of guest speakers from local businesses can offer advice on gaining employment. We also support with CV building, job searches and interview preparation. Our expert Apprenticeship Team are also available to support with helping to find suitable vacancies.
