Health & Wellbeing

Health and Wellbeing

Student health and wellbeing is of great importance at Nelson and Colne College. We have a Health Development Practitioner working full-time within the College as part of the Student Services team, who is also a registered nurse and qualified public health specialist with experience of working with children, young people and families in both health and education settings.

We run drop-in services where students can receive advice on a number of different issues including:

  • General health concerns
  • Sexual health
  • Smoking cessation
  • Eating disorders
  • Bereavement
  • Anger management
  • Emotional health

There are also a number of health awareness and promotion campaigns throughout the year, with external organisations including Communities against Cancer, Healthy Minds and Early Break.

In addition, we provide a confidential counselling service to all our students to help them with any personal issues.

Student Safety

Nelson and Colne College is committed to creating a safe environment for all students.

During tutorials, students learn about personal safety, both at College and while out and about. We also consider online safety to be of utmost importance and so each week, students can attend workshops about how to stay safe online.

Students can also contact the Student Safeguarding Team to discuss any problems they might be experiencing.
