Course Overview

This course provides an interesting and varied basic introduction to Hairdressing. It will help you to develop skills for progression onto higher level courses within this area as well as give you the wider skills such as study skills, communication skills, and English and Maths, to enable you to progress to the next level.

Learning is through classroom based and practical workshop activities. Maths and English will be a core part of the qualification.

 

What will I learn?

For your chosen vocational option, you will also study a range of topics which may include: 

  • An introduction to the hairdressing and beauty sector
  • Presenting a professional image in a salon
  • Shampooing and conditioning hair
  • An introduction to basic styling for women and men
  • An introduction to plaiting and twisting hair
  • Colouring hair using temporary colour
  • Creating a hair and beauty image
  • Health and Safety in the salon
  • Salon reception duties
  • Working with others

Written assignments, exams and practical assessments.

Materials and other information

Alongside all programmes, students will have the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of extracurricular activities from trips and visits, to enterprise activities and fundraising. You may also have the opportunity to complete work experience within your chosen career area.

WORK EXPERIENCE

As part of your study programme you will undertake relevant work experience linked to your career aspiration. This experience is designed to expand your skills, develop your CV and develop industry contacts. You will have support tin finding your placement through your tutors and our dedicated careers team.

Progression and Careers

On successful completion of your Level 1 course you may be able to progress on to further studies with a Level 2 course in your chosen subject or onto an Apprenticeship, where appropriate.
