Qualification: BTEC Level 2 First Diploma in Health and Social Care Type: Vocational
Entry Requirements: 4 GCSEs at grade D or above including Maths and English Start Date: Sept 2017
Length:

Students interested in working within the Health and Social Care industry will have good communication skills, the ability to follow instructions, will show enthusiasm and work collaboratively with others. The units cover a wide range of topics including Communication, Individual Rights, Anatomy and Physiology, Lifespan Development and Nutrition. A work placement element will give you the necessary experience to pursue a career in the Health and Social Care sector.

These units will be assessed through presentations, professional interviews, work placement contribution and participation during campaigns, workbooks, essays, role play situations and two external exams.

As a Health and Social Care student at Nelson and Colne College you will have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of activities to enhance your learning experience, such as trips and visits to local and national health organisations. A range of guest speakers, charity and awareness raising events, visits to universities, and last year our students attended a residential trip to Prague.

In addition to this, students can volunteer as Health Mentors to their peers, working alongside our Health Practitioner and there is also a wide variety of College wide extra-curricular activities, which all students can take part in.

The Health and Social Care department has a new simulation room where learners can participate in the practical tasks associated with their career aspirations.

A uniform is required for the work placement unit.

You will be offered the opportunity to take part in trips and visits, some of which will include a nominal charge.

Successful completion of the Level 2 qualification can lead on to the Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care. Students who progress on to the Level 3 qualification can choose to specialise in Social Care or Health Professions.
