What is External Funding?

External funding allows the College to undertake projects that our core income from the Learning and Skills Council cannot pay for. This means that we are able to give our customers additional help with the cost of support, advice & guidance or provide further training, which is paid for by the European Union (through our local LSC) or by an alternative funding body in Europe or the UK.

Where does the money come from?

The majority of our funding comes from the European Union through the European Social Fund ( ESF ) or the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), but we also receive funding from UK sources such as the Single Regeneration Budget (SRB), the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund (NRF) and the North West Development Agency (NWDA). In addition, we receive a number of one-off grants targeting specific areas for intervention or educational research.

Is this limited to one area or is it College-wide?

Projects are delivered throughout the College, the Community and in the Work place or occasionally through partnership organisations. Many of the ESF projects are collaborations that are developed and delivered through the partnership colleges of the Lancashire Colleges Consortium and are therefore delivered county-wide.

Who should I contact to find out more?

The co-ordination and monitoring of projects is undertaken by the External Funding Unit and they can be contacted on 01282 440319.
