New Netball, Football and Basketball Academies offered at Nelson and Colne College
Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form have launched three new prestigious Sports Academies in Netball, Football and Basketball.
Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form offers outstanding provision in the area of Physical Education, with a range of courses including A Levels and BTECs. A number of talented athletes have made it to the top of their sport with the help and support of the College, including Olympic cycling medallist Steven Burke, ladies England football squad goal keeper Rachel Brown and International hockey player Charlotte Hartley. In this academic year alone, the college can boast of being the college of choice for two top-class athletes, Natalie Haythornthwaite, who is a key member of the UK’s Under 19s netball squad and Tommy Allen, Under 18 Heavyweight Ju-jitsu World Champion!
The creation of the netball, football and basketball academies will allow talented sport students to gain access to professional coaching in their chosen sport, whilst also benefitting from an outstanding education at the College’s Sixth Form, which last year celebrated a 99.9% pass rate at A Level – the best results in the area.
