A qualification in Law demonstrates your ability to think clearly and logically. Not only will you be looking at a wide range of high-profile cases, you’ll also find out about the offences themselves, how they came to court, how the judge sentences a convicted criminal and how solicitors, barristers, magistrates and juries interact. You’ll gain an understanding of how laws are made and how they are passed in Parliament, police powers, criminal and civil courts and the European Court of Justice.
What will I learn?
Criminal Law: You will study the rules and principles concerning general elements of criminal liability for offences against the person including assault and murder, property offences and attempt. In addition, you will examine the defences of intoxication and self-defence.
Tort Law: You will learn the rules and principles concerning liability and fault in actions for negligence, occupiers’ liability, nuisance and vicarious liability - with reference to associated defences and remedies.
How will the course be assessed?
You will be assessed by examinations at the end of the two-year course.
You will also be expected to carry out independent study and other personal development activities alongside your programme, such as additional workshops, an Extended Project Qualification, leisure extracurricular activities, volunteering or work experience, or part-time employment.
