Course Overview

During this A Level you will learn about the politics of the UK and USA, with a core focus on current affairs, policy and structure for both countries. You will learn how political decisions are made and who has the power and authority to make those decisions and how they are put into power. You will also study US politics, acquiring an understanding of how the two systems compare.

What will I learn?

You will focus on issues such as the mechanics of government, political participation, Parliament and the role of the Prime Minister, the Judiciary and human rights, political systems and various political ideologies such as liberalism, conservatism and socialism.

How will the course be assessed?

You will be assessed by examinations at the end of the two-year course.

You will also be expected to carry out independent study and other personal development activities alongside your programme, such as additional workshops, an Extended Project Qualification, leisure extracurricular activities, volunteering or work experience, or part-time employment.

Materials and other information

You will study in modern classrooms with interactive learning technology, and will have access to up-to-date resources.

You will be offered a range of extracurricular activities, including trips and visits. Details of the cost of these will be provided as they are planned.
