As an apprentice you will normally spend the majority of your time in the workplace and may attend College just one day a week.
Some Apprentices do not attend College as all their learning takes place at work. Because of this we recognise that apprentices need reliable, high quality support to ensure that they achieve their very best.
As an Apprentice of the College you are part of a large learning community and benefit from the wide range of support that we offer to each and every student.
As an apprentice at Nelson and Colne College you are assured of outstanding support throughout your Apprenticeship programme:

Gary joined Nelson and Colne College’s Apprenticeship Academy from Norden High School in Blackburn, where he is undertaking an NVQ Level 3 Apprenticeship in Professional Cookery. He attends College on day release from his full-time position at The Fence Gate Inn, which is a highly acclaimed restaurant in Pendle.
Whilst studying his Apprenticeship, Gary was encouraged to enter the UK Young Seafood Chef of the Year Competition with another apprentice, Naem who also works at The Fence Gate Inn. The talented duo enjoyed great success, winning their regional heat against extremely strong competition and getting through to the grand finals!
Gary has great culinary ambitions, including a desire to work in a Michelin Starred restaurant and when asked what he would say to other young people who are deciding what to do next, he said, “always do your best and aim for the top!”
