Nelson and Colne College has received funding to develop an onsite Archery club as part of its “Get Up, Get Active” extra-curricular programme.

Nelson and Colne College is committed to giving all students a well-rounded education and as part of this, provides an extensive range of extra-curricular activities which change year-on-year depending on student interest and demand. After identifying student demand for Archery, and the lack of affiliated clubs in the local area, the College’s Sport Maker Alexis Walker worked to secure the funding to develop an onsite archery club.

The funding was secured through a partnership approach between Nelson and Colne College, Accrington Archery Academy, Lancashire Sport partnership and Archery GB. £3,000 was received from Lancashire Sport Partnership’s Satellite club’s funding and £1,500 from Archery GB. This funding has secured new equipment for the College as well as the purchase of an indoor net, meaning archery sessions can be delivered indoors. The group, “NCC Archers” has been supported by and will be a satellite club of Accrington Archery academy.

Alexis Walker, College Sport Maker, said: “This funding means we can widen our sporting provision and meet our student demand, as well as providing an opportunity for a new and exciting onsite activity, which many of our students may never have the opportunity to experience.”

Satellite club sessions are currently being offered to students and staff on a Monday night 4-6pm, but the College is hoping to widen this offer to the local community, once the foundations of the club are established. We are looking for anyone who is interested in helping run, deliver or develop the club to contact Alexis at a.walker@nelsongroup.ac.uk

The facilities are also available for hire if any local clubs are looking for indoor shooting space. For facility bookings contact Sam.bowden@pendleleisuretrust.co.uk or call 01282 661228
