Which Route?

In preparation of starting College, many students will be debating one important question – which is best for me; A Levels, a Vocational programme or an Apprenticeship?

Generally speaking, this will depend on your long-term career goals and aspirations as certain industries will require certain qualifications. Therefore it is important that you consider what you want to do in the future when applying to start at College. You will be given plenty of opportunities to get more in-depth advice at one of our Open Events, or by speaking with our School Liaison Team, who regularly visit your school. Alternatively, contact our Student Services Team on 01282 440209.

Your choices

A Levels

These are highly regarded, traditional qualifications. A Levels will suit you if you perform well in exams and want to study a variety of subjects before you apply to university. They are academic courses, with many relying on a combination of examinations and coursework for assessment.

Vocational Programmes

Offering a more ‘hands-on’, practical approach, if you already have your mind firmly fixed on a particular industry, such as Art or Nursing, then a Vocational programme such a BTEC Extended Diploma or an NVQ may be right for you.

Apprenticeships

Getting paid whilst you study might sound too good to be true but as an apprentice, that is exactly what you can expect! You will work within a company and have training delivered via the College. You'll be able to study, get hands-on work experience and pick up a wage as well.
