Financial Support

Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form is aware of the financial barriers that may prevent some students from studying, especially given the Government’s decision to scrap the former EMA offering.

Therefore, we have devised our own financial support package, which we will help those in genuine need of support towards the cost of studying. This includes:

• Travel to College for less than £1per day
• A 25% subsidy on rail fares*
• A Learning Support Fund**
• Free breakfast each day for students arriving before 8.40am
• Heavily subsidised kits for eligible students** including Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy, Catering and Sports
• FREE CRB checks for eligible students **
• Bursaries for eligible students**
• Reduced price trips and visits

* Conditions apply

** Dependent on family income and attendance at College

In addition to the above, certain students may be able to apply for the Government funded 'Gauranteed Study Bursary'. This is available to young people in receipt of income support, who are in care, or who are a care leaver. This is a bursary of £1200. Please contact Rachel Cox on 01282 440 279 for more information

Child Care

We work closely with local nurseries and childminders. There are different schemes to help students of all ages fund their childcare costs. These include Care to Learn (for students aged 16-19), and the College Learner Support Funds, both for students aged 20 and above.

Early applications are recommended.

Please note: the College cannot make any contribution for childcare unless it is with a registered childcare provider.
