Level 1 Foundation Programmes and GAP

NVQ Level 1 or Level Introductory Diploma

Do you feel like you need a fresh start in your education? Perhaps school wasn’t for you, or you had circumstances which meant that you did not achieve your full potential. If so, then Nelson and Colne College’s Level 1 programmes might be for you.

The programmes will allow you to improve your knowledge and skills, whilst gaining qualifications which mean you can progress onto higher level courses. You will enjoy College life, making new friends, gaining confidence and have all the other benefits of being a Nelson and Colne College student.

The Level 1 Foundation programme is often a launch programme for other courses. In order to achieve your potential, you will be supported and guided throughout your studies, which will help you to decide what to do when the courses finishes. This is often a pivotal year for many students, where you can reflect on your past educational choices and set off on a new path to success.

Many of our students progress from Level 1 to higher level programmes at Nelson and Colne College.

GAP

This is an Entry Level 3 course where you will study personal, social work and employability related skills and undertake work experience. Specific subjects include Catering, Health Studies, Sport and Leisure Studies, ICT, Life Skills, Retail, Engineering, Literacy, Numeracy and Environmental Studies.

Achievement of the full certificate can lead to study on one of the many Level 1 programmes, or employment.
