Our Child Care programmes are designed to provide you with the appropriate education and training to enable you to work with children and their families in a variety of settings and environments within the sector of Children’s Services.
This programme will provide you with an education on subjects such as Child Development, Policy and Practice, First Aid, Equal Opportunities Child Health and Law.
The Level 3 Diploma is the only Level 3 QCF qualification that will confer occupational competence for the Children and Young People’s Workforce.
You will be given the opportunity to work with children in a range of placements in schools and nurseries. In College you will study the development of children from birth to nineteen years of age and explore working as a professional within these age ranges, allowing you to relate your learning to practice.
Level 2 and 3 students with no previous experience of working with children and young people benefit from working in a real work environment for a minimum of 1 day each week throughout their period of study to achieve the qualification. In addition, learners will gain valuable experience from attending block weeks to gain a full understanding of the children or young people’s differing needs and the full range of activities that occur in the work role. (CACHE recommend approximately 200 hours working in real work environments.)
We offer courses at Levels 1, 2 and 3 in Children’s Care Learning and Development.
A £40 fee is payable by all students at the time of enrolment to cover the cost of a CRB check. All individuals working with children or vulnerable adults must go through this disclosure service.

Talented Child Care student Anna Romanska, who is studying for a Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and
Education has won the National Heinemann and Nursery World Child Care Student of the Year Award.
Anna, who is 26 and originally from Poland has previously studied for a Level 2 Diploma in Child Care and Education at the College, and despite having only arrived in England shortly before she began the programme, with English as her second language, she gained an A and impressed her tutors early on. With a three year old son, Anna juggles her College work alongside caring for him .
Criteria for the competition is stringent and following short listing, Anna had to submit a piece of written work which demonstrated her ability to work with children and evaluate her own practise. For the finals, Anna travelled to Pearson’s Head Quarters in Oxford, where she was judged against other competitors from Colleges across the UK.
Judges said, “Anna showed an excellent grasp of the key issues in her own case study and also contributed positively to the other candidates' case studies. In particular, she demonstrated empathy by seeing things from the parents' point of view and putting the needs of the children at the centre of her response.”
