Vocational - Media Production in Television and Film

Our Media Production in Television and Film is a challenging course which will allow you to explore the diverse and creative film and television industries.

You will have the opportunity to participate in ‘real life’ briefs as well as use industry-standard equipment, developing your production management skills in a professional manner which makes you a high calibre candidate when applying for jobs in the media industries. You will look at how to plan and produce a range of TV formats and learn technical skills including using cameras, light and sound equipment, editing software and studio management.

These practical applications are enhances by the theoretical understanding you acquire of the film and television industries.

You will study the following units:

Single Camera Techniques

You will learn to plan and produce TV formats such as series, serials and single dramas, and explore genres including period drama, documentary, crime, soap opera and comedy. During this unit you will learn technical skills in camera, lighting, sound, editing, scripting, building a scene and building a story.

Multi-camera techniques

This builds on the above unit and you will learn studio management, multi-camera directing and studio floor techniques.

Film Studies

A largely theoretical unit, during this unit you will discover how to analyse films and develop an understanding of how films are made.

Corporate and Promotional Programme Production

More and more companies are using video in order to promote their brands, making it a valuable marketing tool. During this unit you will learn how to plan and produce corporate videos.

Music Video Production

The Music Industry also relies on knowledgeable and creative films to promote their artists; learn more about planning and producing a music video.

Advertisement Production for Television

During this unit you will find out about the structures and techniques of television advertisements. You will have an opportunity to originate and develop an idea for a television campaign and be able to produce a television advertisement. During this module you will learn 2D animation, 3D animation and stop motion.
