An award winning business is continuing to show its dedication to nurturing talent by taking on apprentices and upskilling staff with Nelson and Colne College.

Unique Clean, a professional commercial cleaning company based in Colne, is working with NCC to take on four apprentices and develop eight current members of staff in team leading and management.

Among those starting a qualification is the director of Unique Clean Glenn Stock, who is looking to develop his leadership skills further by undergoing the ILM Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management.

Glenn said: “I’m a big believer in training and developing the team locally. I also believe in not asking the staff to do anything I wouldn’t do myself – so I have also enrolled onto the ILM Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management.

“First impressions are very good – Nelson and Colne College’s help and guidance is helping my company progress in the right direction. All staff have been so helpful and have vast knowledge and experience, which is very valuable.

“I am very impressed with workshops that are pencilled in, which are also very good networking opportunities. The team are really looking forward to gaining qualifications and progressing onto the next stage of their career.”

Unique Clean recently won Small Business of the Year at the Nelson and Colne College Apprenticeship Awards.

Vice Principal Alison Rushton said: “We are delighted to be working with Unique Clean to build and develop their teams, and are thrilled to see the company going from strength to strength.

“We work closely with companies across East Lancashire, who are looking for motivated apprentices to join their teams, and/or training for their current employees. At NCC we offer a Talent Matching Service, to ensure companies are getting the very best candidates for their vacancies, and we deliver any bespoke training businesses may require.”

Apprenticeships enable businesses to grow their skills base resulting in increased profits, lower prices and better products. At Nelson and Colne College, apprenticeships are offered across a range of sectors, from Accounting, to Engineering, to Marketing and Social Media. The College has just been named number one for its work with 16-18 apprentices in the National Achievement Rate Tables (measured against other FE Colleges).

Funding for apprenticeships for your business may be available. For more information visit www.nelson.ac.uk/employers/our-apprenticeships or contact 01282 440272.

Unique Clean began with Glenn offering a one-man service, and has since progressed to him gaining national coverage for the business’ work on crime scene cleaning, flood and fire restoration, food hygiene and more.  For more information on Unique Clean go to http://unique-clean.com/
