Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form’s English for Speakers of Other Languages students help others – and themselves!

The College’s popular English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) course is aimed at helping those for whom English is a secondary language, improving their abilities in reading, writing, listening and speaking. The course can be full-time or part-time and is flexible to meet an individual’s needs, ranging from Entry Level to Level 2.

The College’s ESOL students are always highly successful! The current students have come from far and wide away, including Portugal, Italy and Vietnam! All of them have recently progressed to the higher levels of study, and all are now fluently multilingual.

Not content to simply receive an education, the ESOL students—alongside Progression and Learning Mentor, Amir Saeed—have recently been raising money and gathering donations for the Colne Open Door Centre, a charity whose primary aim is to assist poor and marginalised people living in the Pendle area. The students wished to give back to the community that has accepted them so warmly, and working with the College enabled them to make that happen!
