|Entry Requirements:||4 GCSEs at grade 3/D or above including either Maths or English or a Level 1 equivalent in this area and GCSE Maths or English at grades 3/D or above.|

This course is part of the NCC Ambitions Programme – a unique programme for Level 2 students, which will support you in developing key personal skills such as communication, confidence, resilience, employability and presentation skills.
On this course you will develop the skills you need to succeed in the hairdressing or barbering sector. Your study will mainly be practical work within our commercial salons. You will learn how to perform a variety of hairdressing and barbering services, including colouring and lightening hair, and styling and dressing.
You will also learn to develop your communication and customer service skills while working with clients in the salon, and to operate the salon’s reception systems to book client appointments.
What will I learn?
Over the two years, units may include:
- Health and safety
- Client consultation for hair services
- Shampoo and condition hair and scalp
- Promote products and services to clients in the salon
- Cut women’s hair
- Colour and lighten hair
- Cut men’s hair
- Dressing hair
- Competitions work
- Reception duties
You may also choose an optional unit on perming.
How will the course be assessed?
You will be assessed through a variety of methods including online testing, assignments, practical assessments in a real working environment and working on reception.
There will also be the opportunity to go on a number of trips and visits which will incur a nominal charge.
Distinction Hair and Beauty has three large, stylish and spacious Beauty Salons, which are tranquil and relaxing places to work.
They are fully commercial salons, visited by the general public and you will consequently gain real-life work experience whilst achieving your qualifications.
All our salons are equipped with up-to-date industry standard equipment.
Materials and other information
Students will need to purchase the salon uniform and a hairdressing kit.* There will also be an opportunity for a number of trips and visits which will incur a nominal charge. Costs will be confirmed at interview / enrolment.
*Students may be eligible for financial support if their household income is below £30k.
Progression and Careers
Completion of this course will allow you to progress onto a Level 3 qualification or to start an Apprenticeship or to employment in the sector.
