In this stand-alone session, learners will discuss the impact of poor food hygiene practices leading to potential risks to food safety. Learners will identify the critical temperatures and recommended safe food handling practices.
This is a non-accredited session for learners to gain a basic understanding of food safety. The knowledge gained can be utilised in a home setting and whilst volunteering.
How long is the course?
2.5 hours over one session / week.
What will I learn?
By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
1. Identify recommended & legal safe temperatures for food processing & storage.
2. List 6 potential risks and hazards to food safety in the home.
3. Discuss recommended food handling practices and procedures.
4. Identify appropriate progression opportunities.
How will the course be assessed?
Learners attend via the online platform on a set day and time. The session will be delivered live and learners will be supported to work through the course content. In addition to this, learners will be given information about Apps and websites to access additional resources.
During the session they will be learning in a variety of ways:
Meeting other learners and teacher.
Sharing what has been learnt on the course.
Question and answering techniques.
Engaging in group activities.
Actively listening, observing and discussing.
Completing online documentation.
Accessing Apps and websites for resources and further learning opportunities.
Materials and other information
So the course can start on time, it’s important to be ready to join your online course 15 minutes prior to the official start time. If you haven’t used Teams before, please try the link provided in advance of the session as you may need to install the Teams App.
It would be useful to have a pen and paper so you can make notes throughout the course.

Progression and Careers
The teacher will use a range of activities to review learner’s knowledge throughout the course and identify any gaps and additional information required
Learners will receive feedback in order to further develop their knowledge
Learners will assess their knowledge at the start of the course and again at the end against the learning outcomes. This allows them to identify how much they have learnt and where they might need to do further study or research.
Learners will also be supported to set an individual target(s) for the course based on personal goals and aspirations.
