Course Overview

The VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Cutting Hair is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in; the creative art of cutting women’s hair and how to provide an effective consultation service for clients. Underpinning this qualification, you will develop a sound knowledge of health and safety whilst working in the hairdressing industry. You will also develop a knowledge and understanding of the practical skills learned throughout this qualification. The purpose of this qualification is to develop your practical skills to a high level of occupational ability to enable you to perform your own salon services.

What will I learn?

Follow health and safety practice in the salon
1. Be able to maintain health, safety and security practices
2. Be able to follow emergency procedures

Client consultation for hair services
1. Be able to consult and advise clients
2. Know the characteristics of the hair

Cut women’s hair
1. Be able to prepare for cutting hair
2. Be able to provide a hair cutting service.

How will the course be assessed?

Evidence in the portfolio may take the following forms:
• Observed work
• Witness statements
• Audio-visual media
• Evidence of prior learning or attainment
• Written questions
• Oral questions
• Assignments
• Case studies

Materials and other information

You will be required to complete 3 observations for Health and Safety, 3 observations for Consultation and 8 observations for Cutting Womens hair. You will require a uniform for salon sessions and a hairdressing kit.

Progression and Careers

You will be guided by your tutor/assessor on what evidence you need to produce and your Tutor/assessor will give you feedback on your observations. Target setting.
