Course Overview

During this online course you will have the opportunity to explore how children use coding to help them learn, so that you are better equipped to support your children with their learning outside of the classroom. The course will be delivered via our online learning site ‘Moodle’, with stimulating and interactive activities to help you learn the different ways you can help support your children with coding. This course will help you understand what coding is and the importance and benefits of coding at a young age. This is a 2 hour short course that focuses on how different apps can stimulate and encourage children to thrive in digital technology. As the course progresses learners will have the opportunity to download the app ‘Scratch’ and use this tool themselves and explore the different features it contains. As learners will grow in confidence in using this app to support their child’s learning it is expected they will use their knowledge attained in this course to complete a short task with their children.

This short course allows learners to choose a time and day that suits them and can be studied at home. The learners will have the opportunity to complete the course at their own pace and time and allows learners to revisit the course at their convenience. Once you have enrolled you will be sent information on how to get started on Moodle. Throughout the course there will be an opportunity to speak to one of our tutors and there will also be ‘live’ chats available to those who wish to participate. Your tutor will be on hand throughout the course to offer you support, feedback and guidance.

For this course, you will ideally have an email address and access to the internet and either a Smart phone, tablet or computer. You will need to be able to understand how to follow URL links to pages on the internet. No prior knowledge or skills are required to enrol on this course.
