Nelson and Colne College’s annual hairdressing extravaganza has been another resounding success – celebrating the creativity, talent and innovation of students.

Taking place at the Muni, in Colne, the entertaining event saw students of all levels showcasing their skills and competing in a series of competitions.

The standard was exceptionally high, and for the first time, this year’s competition, which was attended by more than 150 people, had the added bonus of a showcase from Beauty students.

A group of pupils from Park High School also impressed judges after being invited to enter a category following their involvement in an enrichment opportunity with the college.

Hairdressing Curriculum Leader and Staff Governor Claire Pye said: “Once again the evening was a great success. This was due to the dedicated, motivation and creativity of all our students.

“I would like to personally thank the judges for dedicating their own time to support the event. The evening was a real reflection of the team atmosphere that all staff instill in our students and this was backed up by being supporting by the attendance of lots of former students and staff, with former tutor Louise Young giving her time to be our compere.

“I thank everyone involved, especially the Hair team and also our sponsors of prizes and medals: Salon Promotions, Neal and Wolf, Farringtons and Dennis Williams. Here’s to next year.”

The competition was judged by former hairdressing staff Stuart Baistow, Fran Wilson, Michaela Ashforth, former student and L’Oreal’s Oliver Bell, and L’Oreal H3 Ambassador and Habia educator Mark Izzard.Mark said: “The standard of work was excellent and it was a pleasure to be there.”

The college has a long-standing tradition of expertise in the Hairdressing Industry, with a number of students each year progressing to top salons in Manchester, Leeds and London.
