“It is widely acknowledged that we are now experiencing another ‘industrial revolution’ driven by technologies such as 3D printing, lasers, artificial intelligence and new materials such as graphene. Using and understanding these will be critical to any business wanting to maintain their market share in an innovative, challenging marketplace.” Professor Lin Li

The University of Cumbria have teamed up with Nelson and Colne College to offer an event hosted by the internationally recognised Professor Lin Li, an elected Fellow of Royal Academy of Engineering, who has served as President of Laser Institute of America, President of International Academy of Photonics and Laser Engineering and President of Association of Industrial Laser Users, and received Researcher of the Year (2014) medal from The University of Manchester. He is currently Director of the Laser Processing Research Centre at the University of Manchester.

There are few who can rival Professor Li in his achievements in laser engineering. To date he has received the Arthur Charles Main Award from the institute of Mechanical Engineers, the Wolfson Research Merit Award from the Royal Society and the Sir Frank Whittle Medal from the Royal Academy of Engineering for innovative manufacturing.

At our free event, Professor Lin Li will be exploring the production techniques of advanced manufacturing and the impact on engineering and manufacturing businesses.
