Caring students from Nelson and Colne College raised a staggering £1,271 for Pendleside Hospice by holding a loose change collection and helping customers load and unload their shopping at Asda Colne.
Joanne Moseley, fundraising assistant at Pendleside Hospice said: “Volunteering for Pendleside Hospice really does make a huge difference. The students from NCC had a great time and made a really good impression on the staff and their customers. The experience for them is invaluable and helps them improve their life skills.
“Thank you very much to all the students who helped out at Asda, our Friends of Pendleside Volunteers and everyone at Asda, Colne, for helping raise such a fab amount of money which will go directly towards the £2.8 million which has to be raised locally each year to enable us to provide care to people in Burnley and Pendle with life limiting illnesses”.
Level 3 Health and Social Care student Ellie Haythornthwaite, 17, said: “Fund-raising is a huge part of our course, and I thought raising money at Asda was so good – I loved it. I was so pleased to be raising money for Pendleside Hospice as it is a cause close to my heart.
“Nelson and Colne College encourage us to take part in as much volunteering as possible. Thank you to everybody who donated on the day!”
Health and Social Care Tutor Jacqueline Ashton added: “We are so proud of our students for raising so much money for a such a worthwhile cause. Seeing them throwing themselves into the community to raise money and awareness is truly heart-warming and it is a pleasure watching them develop in both a personal and professional capacity.”
