A Catering and Hospitality tutor at Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form, Nick Hatch has turned up the heat in the kitchens, after being named as a finalist in the Best Chef Lecturer category at the PACE Awards.

The Professional Association for Catering Education (PACE) has recently held its annual awards, where representatives of the hospitality and catering training and education sector were honoured for their dedication, passion and innovative approach to education in the UK hospitality industry.

The College was therefore thrilled to learn that one of its tutors, Nick Hatch, was named as a finalist in the category of Best Chef Lecturer!

PACE chief executive officer Geoff Booth said, “The hospitality and catering training and education sector continues to go from strength to strength. Educators are working smarter and more creatively to ensure students are inspired, relationships with industry are nurtured, and excellence in education is upheld.”

Curriculum Leader for Catering and Hospitality at the College, Jason Benn, said, “Nick is a very inspiring teacher who is very deserving of this nomination and we are thrilled that he was named as one of the finalists. He strives for excellence within his classes and demands the very best from each and every student. Nick is keen to use modern technology in lessons and to encourage the use of innovative and modern cooking techniques which really raise our students’ profiles when they apply for jobs. He treats all his learners as individuals and works closely with them to ensure that they maximise their potential.”

If you would like to improve your cooking skills, Nick is offering a 4 day Intensive Cookery Course at the College from Tuesday 16th – Friday 19th July. Classes will run from 10am-3pm and include such skills as making the perfect chocolate fondant, preparing a rack of lamb and how to fillet and cook Seabass.
