Male visitors to Nelson and Colne College’s Beauty Therapy department were treated to an evening of relaxation and TLC at a special event ‘Not for Girls!’
Nelson and Colne College’s Beauty Therapy department is an oasis of tranquillity and relaxation – and this time it was the men’s turn to take advantage of the facilities and services on offer, at a special ‘Not for Girls’ event!
Traditionally a female past-time, spa treatments are becoming increasingly popular with the male population, who have started to realise the benefits of looking after yourself, and dedicating some time to looking good and feeling great! The event was very well attended, with over 20 visitors who enjoyed a range of therapies, including hand and nail treatments and they also received a goody bag to take away. The College is keen to provide its Beauty Therapy students with a broad education, which will set them up for the world of work after they complete their qualifications. The opportunity to work together to organise an event allows the students to gain excellent interpersonal skills and it also improves their confidence, organisation and business skills.
The students’ tutor Lucy Joy said, “The event was organised by the students as part of the working with others qualification that they are doing alongside beauty therapy. As a group they came up with the idea of a pamper session aimed specifically for men. This is something that has never been trialled before so we thought it a good idea. The students thought of the name “Not for girls” and decided what they wanted to put in the goody bags and offer as the package. We were really pleased with the response to the event and the feedback was really positive. We are therefore going to do another similar event in April.”
