Samiha Hussain from Colne is walking away from College armed with outstanding grades – despite being taken ill with appendicitis in the lead up to her crucial exam period.

The Nelson and Colne College student was discharged from a two week hospital just before her Psychology exam – but she need not have worried that it would affect her results as she sailed through it to achieve an A*.

Eighteen-year-old Samiha, a former student of Colne Primet Academy, also scored an A* in Biology and a B in Chemistry and is heading to the University of Liverpool to study Medicine. Samiha has an ambition to be a Paediatric Oncologist.

Samiha said: “I’m a mix of happy, proud and relieved! I wanted to do Medicine as I enjoyed the sciences at school and wanted to carry them on. The way the world of healthcare works really interests me.

“My brother had cancer and I wanted to find out more from that point. He came out of the other side and that area is something I’m extremely passionate about.

“The teachers at NCC have been so helpful and supportive and the extra support, such as the revision workshops, were very useful.

“I’ve made a lot of friends here and I would definitely recommend the College to others. Get involved with as many things as you can, keep organised and make the most of the help from staff.”

Nelson and Colne College is celebrating an overall pass rate of 99.7% overall pass rate, with 26 subjects achieving outstanding 100% pass rate. 96% of students achieved at least one A*-C, and 79% of students achieved at least one A*-B.

Nelson and Colne College’s School Leaver Enrolment Event is taking place on Thursday 24th August from 9am-5pm. Students need to bring along their GCSE results to enrol.
