Outstanding student Kate, who studied English Literature, History and English Language at Nelson and Colne College, is now ready to head off to the University of York and dreams of one day becoming a children’s TV presenter.

As well as shining academically, Kate has also enjoyed an array of enrichment successes throughout her time at College, including spending a Summer at Harvard University as part of the US Sutton Trust Programme, founding the College magazine “Jigsaw” and achieving gold in the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

The former Colne Park High School student, 18, said: “I have made friends that will last my whole life and have had a wonderful time at Nelson and Colne College. It has been a cracking two years.

“I have stepped out of my comfort zones and done things I never thought I would do, and I would advise others to talk to everyone, join clubs, and work your socks off – because it is all worth it in the end. You can do anything if you put your mind to it!”

Kate’s achievements also include acting as a student governor, form representative and a member of the student council, as well as being selected nationwide to attend a Higher Education Insight Programme at the University of Birmingham.

Once again Nelson and Colne College staff and students are celebrating a 100% pass rate and a rise in top grades.
