Nelson and Colne College’s Creative department is looking picture perfect after being transformed into an exhibition space for the annual Art and Design End of Year Show.

The college’s annual showcase celebrates the stunning works produced by both A Level and vocational students in NCC’s Creative Arts and Media department, and 2019’s event will feature a wide range of pieces including fine art, film, graphics, photography and textiles exhibits.

A VIP launch night will kick off the exhibition in style on Tuesday 11 June attended by students and their families and friends, as well as dignitaries including the Mayor and Mayoress of Pendle and industry representatives.

The free to view exhibition will then open up to members of the public on Wednesday 12 June and Thursday 13 June from 12 noon until 4pm.

Assistant Principal at Nelson and Colne College, Morag Davis, said: “Our Creative Arts and Media students have been working very hard crafting their diverse range of exhibits and building up to this stellar annual showcase.

“New figures released by the government in November 2018 showed that Britain’s creative industries broke the £100 billion barrier for the first time in 2017, and the creative sector has grown at nearly twice the rate of the economy since 2010.

“The growth of this sector encompasses film, TV, radio, photography, music, advertising, museums, galleries and digital creative industries. Many of the high quality creative subjects taught here at Nelson and Colne College can lead into prosperous careers in those industries, and it is incredibly important that we continue to celebrate and promote creative routes to future students.”

There is still time to apply onto the wide range of Creative Arts and Media courses starting in September at NCC, designed to help students progress into employment, an Apprenticeship or university. Two million people are employed in creative jobs in the UK and this is set to grow by 1.5 million by 2025.

Nelson and Colne College is the number one college in the country for 16-18 learner achievement and 16-18 timely Apprenticeship achievement. The college is also number one in Lancashire for A Levels and vocational courses, based on progress scores, and is the leading FE College in the country for GCSE Mathematics progress and second nationally for English progress.

NCC is also the number one college in Lancashire for both student satisfaction and employer satisfaction, based on the latest FE Choices survey.
