Hairdressing students from the College had the chance to show off their creativity, charisma and talent last week at the annual Hairdressing Competition Evening.

Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form is well-known both locally and nationally for its outstanding Hairdressing students. Many of the College’s past students have progressed onto fulltime work in the industry, or onto challenging higher education courses. Past students have gained employment in local salons and in highly renowned salons as far as Manchester, Leeds and even London!

The Hairdressing Competition Evening is held each year at the Municipal Hall in Colne. It is the main highlight of the year for the College’s Hairdressing students; a time when students from every level come together to showcase their talents and engage in fierce competition.

Curriculum Leader for Hairdressing, Claire Pye, said, “The night was busy, fabulous and once again amazing! The standard of the students’ work on display was a reflection of their motivation, dedication, enthusiasm, and of course their tutors’ continuous support! The event was even bigger and better than ever, with a huge variety of students – including 73 Level 1 students!

There were six different competitions in total, including three different themed competitions for our Level 2 learners and the amazing Level 3 Avant Garde. The Day Release competition was a lot of fun, as it saw a variety of apprentices from local salons competing against each other.

Many thanks go to our sponsors and to the judges: Fran Wilson, Dave Hall, Jonathan Neale, Janine Taylor, Michaela Ashforth, and last year’s level 3 winner, Tyler Potts. Here’s to next Year!”
