A Nelson and Colne College student is eyeing a career in teaching after securing A*AA in her A Levels.
Former Park High School student Ella Mitchell, 18, from Trawden, achieved her stellar grades in Sociology, Maths and Philosophy, Ethics and Religion.
She is now going to take a gap year to gain experience as a teaching assistant before pursuing her dream career.
Ella said: “I’m very happy with my results as I achieved my predicted grades and exceeded the minimum I would have been happy with.
“My ultimate ambition is to be happy and successful but I want to be a teacher, hopefully in Maths. I’m looking at going to university next September and to undertake teaching assistant work between now and then.”
Ella has also praised the quality of facilities, the level of support available to students at Nelson and Colne College and the culture of developing independence skills that exists at NCC.
She added: “I have enjoyed my time at NCC, particularly the second year. My Sociology teacher has been very supportive all year and has been the reason I enjoyed my Sociology lessons so much. I also enjoy the amount of freedom we are given generally and the ability to work independently.
“I would recommend NCC to others for various reasons – the resources available at College are amazing. Work spaces are very good, as there are places to work and revise all over College, both where you can work in groups, or quietly by yourself. The teachers at NCC are also incredible at what they do and help their students as much as possible.”
In its 2017/18 results, NCC achieved a 99% pass rate at A Level and a 100% pass rate in advanced vocational courses.
The college is top in the country for 16-18 learner achievement at all levels, number one in the country for A Levels, based on progress scores, and the number one college in the country for overall Apprenticeship achievement at all ages and levels.
Government data also places NCC as the best college in the area for vocational courses, based on progress scores, while it is also the best college in Lancashire for student satisfaction, according to the FE Choices Learner Satisfaction Survey.
