Travelling To College

Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form is conveniently located just off Junction 13 of the M65 motorway, at the gateway to the village of Barrowford and close to Nelson town centre. Nelson is well served by public transport and prospective students will find that there is a wide range of travel options available to get to College.

Driving and Parking at College

Students can park on our secure, barriered car park. To apply for a permit, visit Student Services on Enrolment Day. Disabled parking is also available for blue badge holders. Students will need a College ID and car park permit in order to access the car park.

Cycling to College

Students are encouraged to cycle to College where possible. Not only is this the greenest way to travel, but it’s beneficial to your health too! The College has a large covered bike shed for storing your bikes during classes.

There are numerous bus services which operate in the area. The majority of services in Pendle stop at Nelson Bus Interchange and some stop outside the College on Scotland Road. A regular bus service operates between the Interchange and College, or alternatively the College is approximately 10 minutes walk from the Interchange.

Travel Support
All 16-18 year old students are eligible for subsidised termly bus passes, available to purchase from Student Services. You may also be eligible for FREE bus travel if your household income is under £30,000.

Bus Travel
Many students choose to buy a subsidised term pass from Student Services. The cost to the student will depend on where they live and in some cases the service(s) being accessed.  Students entitled to the College Bursary Fund are eligible for a free term bus pass.

The prices per term for passes on Transdev services are:

  • Pendle Pass – £50
  • Silver Pass – £60
  • Silver Pass (for students living in the Pendle area) – £95

Transdev passes are valid on all services within the specified zone. All passes are valid seven days a week and include travel during half term and all College holidays.

The prices per term for the College-run services are:

  • Service 800 – Accrington £60
  • Service 900 – Clitheroe £60

These passes are valid on the relevant College service during term-time.

Some students may need to get a pass for Lancashire County Council run local services. Prices vary per term. Please enquire for more details.


Train Services

The College can be accessed via an hourly train service which operates between Colne and Preston. The direct route covers the following stations: Preston, Blackburn, Accrington, Huncoat, Hapton, Rose Grove, Burnley Barracks, Burnley Central, Brierfield, Nelson (for the College) and Colne.
