We are celebrating as our Netball Academy team triumph in the British Colleges Sport Plate competition.

Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form has an enviable reputation for sport and new students are currently benefitting from multimillion pound project which has seen the creation of a new high-tech 3G sports pitch and multi-use games area, plus extended gymnasium.

With Sports Academies for both Football and Netball, the College was thrilled to find out that its Netball team had emerged as winners from a plate competition held at the Amaechi Centre in Manchester.

18 colleges took part in the competition and this was the second consecutive year that Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form had taken the plate title. The Academy team played 4 games in the group stages, emerging unbeaten before facing Priestly College in the final. It was a tough competition, with a draw at half time, but the Nelson and Colne College girls rallied round to produce a stunning victory, 12-7!

Netball coach Lora Speak said, “I am so proud of our team – the girls. Olivia Bythell, Olivia Purtill, Emily Wilson, Jodie Sutcliffe, Nikki Harper, Lizzie Jennings and Captain, Annie Wyld, really demonstrated the true meaning of team work. They got better match-by-match and supported each other throughout. This is the second year the College has won the plate and I know that the team will have fantastic memories of the tournament.”
