Chef Consultant for All Things Food, Stephanie Moon, visited Farringtons at Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form to share her knowledge and experience with catering and hospitality students.
Yorkshire born and raised Stephanie Moon has a reputation for excellence in the food industry. She is a Consultant Chef with a vast amount of experience working in some of Yorkshires best loved hotels and restaurants, including Harrogate’s Rudding Park. She has many accolades to her name including Yorkshire Life magazine Chef of the Year, Deliciously Yorkshire Champion, and most recently a Bronze medal winner in the National 2010 British Culinary Federation Chef of the Year Competition. As well as being a regular demonstrator at food shows, Stephanie has also made appearances on both radio and television including Channel 5 “Street Market Chefs 2010” and representing the North East on BBC2’s Great British Menu in 2011!
Stephanie is committed to passing on her skills to the next generation and it was with this intention that she recently came to Nelson and Colne College’s restaurant and bistro, Farringtons, to work with the College’s aspiring chefs. The College has a long-standing tradition of excellence in the Catering and Hospitality sectors, with the vast majority of students going on to secure full-time employment in local bistros and gastro-pubs, luxury cruise liners, and even Michelin starred restaurants such as Heston Blumenthal’s Hind’s Head and Nigel Howarth’s Northcote. Students leave the College with a well-rounded range of skills and experience which sets them up for successful careers in this challenging industry.
Local schools including Colne Primet Academy, Ss John Fisher and Thomas More RC High School, Unity College and West Craven High School attended the event, bringing along their own aspiring chefs. A selection of VIPs also attended, including local media representatives, staff from Pendle Leisure Trust and Bertrams at Crow Wood, Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson and the Mayor Councillor Graham Roach.
Deborah Howard, Head of Division for Catering, said, “I am incredibly proud of our students and the exceptional quality of the food they produced when working with Stephanie. Diners, which included VIPS and those linked closely to the catering industry, were impressed with the level of service they received from our Hospitality students, as well as the delicious food created by our Catering students. There are so many exciting and varied career opportunities available in Catering and Hospitality and careers in this thriving industry are often overlooked; thanks to Stephanie, I am sure that the students who worked at the event will be inspired to make their own mark on the sector.”
Stephanie Moon said, “The students were excellent, and it is clear that they are 100% supported in their studies… There are some really great tutors here.”
