Course Overview

On the Creative Media Production course, you can expect to develop a range of skills. The qualification has been developed for students who wish to focus their study in Creative Media Production, with a view to progressing to a related higher education course and a career within the creative industries.

The course is designed through client set projects, self-directed assignments, group work and work placements, as well as external exam assessments to develop your employability skills, such as self-management, and prepare you for higher education to specialise in the media sector. You can expect a range of different opportunities across the course to study graphics, animation, publishing and film-making. You will be mostly assessed on your coursework, portfolios and essay writing for 60% of the course, with 40% on an external assessment.

The main focus of Year 2 will be on using the skills developed in Year 1 to work on a project – giving you the opportunity to plan, prepare and develop a response to an industry brief. All work will be internally assessed via practical portfolio work. Student work is generated through practical projects, briefs, workshops and engagement with industry experts. You will have the support of experienced tutors to help you every step of your journey.

What will I learn?

Year 2 includes online portfolio building, networking events and opportunities with industryexperts. You spend a large percentage of your time advancing your practical skills learnt in Year 1 and applying them to a live client brief, which is open for you to focus on your chosen speciality within Creative Media.

Games Design

(Year 2 Option  2)

Year 2 includes portfolio building with games development, including: 2D and 3D graphics, and creating and developing games. You will spend a large percentage of your time advancing your practical skills which you developed in Year 1 and then applying them to a live client brief, which is open for you to focus on your chosen speciality within games design.

Materials and other information

You will present all your final year work to VIPs and industry professionals in a fabulous End of Year Show. You will also be invited to meet with professionals in creative industries to explore different job roles. Students are asked to pay a consumable fee that will provide them with various art materials and trips on the course. Costs will be confirmed at interview / enrolment. Trips and visits include The Liverpool Tate and Walker Gallery, Manchester Art Galleries, The Stitch and Knit show in Harrogate, Media Museum and Impressions Gallery in Bradford, Harry Potter Studios in London, and a residential visit to London.
