Course Overview

This course provides an interesting and varied basic introduction to Engineering. It will help you to develop skills for progression onto higher level courses within this area as well as give you the wider skills such as study skills, communication skills, English and Maths, to enable you to progress to the next level.

Learning is through classroom based and practical workshop activities. Maths and English will be a core part of the qualification.

What will I learn?

For your chosen vocational option, you will also study a range of topics which may include:

  • Working safely in engineering
  • Making engineering components using hand tools
  • Developing skills in using a bench-pedestal drilling machine
  • Developing skills in planning and making a machined product
  • Developing skills in assembling mechanical components
  • Preparing for an interview
  • Engineering – the marking out process

Written assignments, exams and practical assessments.

Progression and Careers

Students can progress onto a Level 2 qualification in Engineering or an Apprenticeship within this sector.
