Course Overview
To celebrate this month. This course will explore the importance of local history, how to discover your local history and will provide a forum to share local history stories. We will discuss ways of discovering your local history, the opportunities for local history research in your area and how to complete the research. Learners will have an opportunity to plan a local history project and how you can write a short engaging story about it.
What will I learn?
At the end of the course, learners will be able to:
Identify the key elements writing and researching local history.
Identify the steps to plotting a piece of local history.
Complete a piece of writing.
Identify good research practices.
Share your ideas with others.
How will the course be assessed?
This course will be delivered online.
Online courses will be delivered on either Zoom or MS Teams and learners will need access to a computer, laptop or tablet device with access to the internet. All devices should have a camera, sound and a microphone so that learners are able to interact with their teacher and peers during the course.
Learners will be sent the join details and links prior to the course. Both of these online platforms can be accessed via an app on a smart phone, tablet or iPad or alternatively via the relevant website:

Active listening and reflective discussion
Participation in individual and group/team tasks
Personal reflection and note taking

Progression and Careers
The tutor will give you verbal feedback during the sessions and will also give feedback on a piece of written work commenting on your writing and giving you steps to improve it.
